Who Needs Comic-Disadvantage? Disney Discloses All At D23 Expo

Disney Announces Two New Pixar Films Who needs Comic-Disadvantage when you are able do-it-yourself? That must definitely be precisely what Disney thinks about the problem because it continues its massive second annual Disney D23/ Expo, the "ultimate fan event" happening all weekend lengthy in the Anaheim Convention Center right alongside Disneyland (the title describes 1923, the entire year Wally Disney began his studio). This is an offshoot from the official Disney Fan Club and features a ginormous exhibition center with every imaginable chance to purchase Disneyana, numerous fan occasions and celebrity-sighting opps, after which there is present day focal point: a near-three-hour preview of movies within the pipeline from Disney, Pixar and Marvel (which introduced a partnership with the organization last year that's at the moment preparing). Refer to it as "Mickey Disadvantage". It's all regulated a little overwhelming, so no surprise it requires 72 hours simply to cope with everything. The big event continues with the finish of Sunday. After his major presentation from the newDisney slatein the gargantuan arena before 4200 apparently rabid fans (along with a couple of more restrainedpress people), I swept up with Wally Disney Galleries chairman Wealthy Ross within the Eco-friendly Roomfor a unique interview by which he spoken concerning the options of the fifth Sailing.of someplace sunny and warm film in addition to his first comments about the demise of Pirates team The Actor-brad Pitt and Jerry Bruckheimer's about-to-shoot Western The Lone Ranger, which Deadline's Mike Fleming firstreported have been came by Disney because of financial concerns about the pricey pic. After I askedRoss ifthere was anything newto report he stated,"Nothing definitive. There's nothing new. I am wishing to get it done, I am certainly wishing. I believe it is a compelling story and nobody wants to utilize Jerry andJohnny a lot more than me, so we'll see results for yourself.Inch Contributing to the potential of a fifth Pirates? Everything is clearly clouded with theLone Ranger situation, however he used the term "hopeful." "We are hopeful everyone is game for this. Now we are focusing on a script. We're feeling we must have something that can not be about franchise, it needs to actually cover the storyline, and that is where we are going now," Ross stated, adding that he's very happy with the performance from the latest Pirates film, the industry $1 billionworldwide grosser getting just passed$800 million worldwide. The success certainly required the sting off earlier 2011box office non-startersMars Needs Moms (a movie he inherited in the previous regime) and Promenade (a modest $10 millionpic he greenlighted). For Cars 2, which received disappointing reviews (by Pixar standards)and it has done 1 / 2 of what Toy Story 3 did last summer time, Ross stated: "Its carried out everywhere. People question if you're able to hit individuals types of (Toy Story 3) levels, however i am happy. It's going to tip over $500 million a few days ago, therefore it is not quite a little figure. We are happy with [Wally Disney and Pixar Animation Studioschief creative officer]John Lasseter, and it is an interest work for him," he stated. Ross opened up his show 'life was imple' promising "an insider's look at approaching movies" after which greasing everyone else by guaranteeing, "You are the main reason we all do what we should do." Ross stated in the first moment he saw Mary Poppins in 1964 at at New You are able to theater he was "an admirer for existence." Then he introducedLasseter (putting on what he stated was the "officialHawaiian Cars 2 shirt") who proceeded, withthe assistance of seveal company directors and stars, to operate with an impressive preview of the approaching 'toon product together with a semi-Cars spinoff known as Planes, which intends to follow and turn adorable aircraft into stars including Dusty, a cropduster voiced by Jon Cryer, who made an appearance personally to hype everyone else about the spring 2013 release. "I am so geeked out," Cryer stated. It was then previews of the Disney Ani November 2012 flick, Wreck-It Rob (voiced by John C. Reilly), which happens within the inanimate realm of game titles. Co-stars Sarah Silverman and30 Rock's Jack McBrayer required happens to wow everyone else, with Silverman sarcastically observing, "I have always aspired to arrived at Anaheim without likely to Disneyland." Lasseter also demonstrated generous footage in the next Pixar release, Brave, opening in summer time 2012. Before presenting director Mark Andrews, who showed up inside a kilt, he notedit is really a "total original' for the organization by having a female lead occur a fairy-tale period piece happening in ancient Scotland. Director Serta Scanlon demonstrated some unpolished footage as well as spoken in the college-set prequelMonsters College before co-star Billy Very designed a brief appearance to promise the adoring crowd, "Believe me, it's amusing, as different as anything imaginable.Inch As reported earlier Saturday, Lasseter presented company directors Pete Docter (Up) and Bob Billings to announce two new Pixar movies the very first time. Docter is going to do The Untitled Pixar Movie That Can Take You Within The Mind, a cerebral-sounding 'toon the director explained later on continues to be materializing, with casting soon to start for any target 2014 date. Billings stated he used their own passion for the 1964 New You are able to World's Fair's animatronic dinosaurs exhibition to spark his idea for that other new Pixar announcement, The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs, but all he'd at this time would be a single slide to exhibit the ravenous crowd. And knowning that, brings bravedaconfetti rain storm to create cookies for everybody in celebration of Pixar's 25th anniversary. (Later within the day, I'd the pleasure of moderating nine people from the Pixar brain trust -- including Lasseter -- inside a rollicking90-minute Q&A before 750 fans honoring the business's amazing run of Oscar-winning movies and shorts). Ross then intro'd leader of production Sean Bailey, who revealed the live-action slate concentrating on a generous quantity of clips in the blockbuster-franchise hopeful in3DJohn Carter, in line with the comic and Edgar Grain Burroughs' sci-fi novel. Oscar-winning Pixar veteran (Wall-E , Finding Nemo) Andrew Stanton is getting into live action as helmer from the large-budget film. After, Stanton explained he really was taking pleasure in doing live action for something new, however when I askedhim just how much your budget was, he responded, "I honestly have no idea. I never need to know exactly what the budgets of my films -- animated or live action -- are, just will be able to obtain the dollars I have to do them. It's certainly costly. It's look foward to two films in a single, live action and also the other CGI." Stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe made an appearance to setup the clips. Tim Burton turned up on tape to tout his stop-motion animated Frankenweenie, a black-and-whitened re-imagining of his early career short of the identical title that Disney is gearing for any Halloween 2012 opening. Coming onstage, executive producer Don Hahn required note from the Frankenstein's monster-like dog named Sparky getting large laughs by saying, "Sparky is 4 inches tall and fully comprised of silicone, kinda like this girl on 'Jersey Shoreline.' " The more compact drama, The Odd Existence of Timothy Eco-friendly, was recommended by star Jennifer Garner, while another tape package referred to the miracles of Mike Raimi's presently shooting prequel Oz: The Truly Amazing and Effective looking for March 2013 that stars James Franco. The show closed with compares the next DisneyNature doc, Chimpanzee, and also the new Muppet film looking for Thanksgiving with Jason Segel and Can Be Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy required tothe stage with Segel for many amusing backwards and forwards. Then Marvel mind Kevin Feigetrumpeted their new cope with Disney and introducedthe2012 Marvel summer time releaseThe Avengers, which starts numerous superheroes from the criminals. Robert Downey Junior, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johannson were one of the large cast showing this season, although Downey was upset they could not begin to see the promo reel backstagewhich unspooled right before they arrived on the scene. "Does anybody need to see exceptional reel again?" Downey requested because he attemped to hide their own motive in attempting to view it themself. They went it again because the stars viewed. Within the Eco-friendly Room, Ross explained "it is good to exhibit the breadth. You have these giant brands with Disney, Pixar and Marvel. The giant brands are wonderful storyteller brands. ... However, you don't auction 'brands,' you sell movies, you sell tales, you sell new figures," he stated. Ross also faced critique in certain quarters he has moved too gradually in building their own slate and taking Disney one stage further. "In my experience we reside in a global that individuals have plenty of choices, and also to have the ability to give a movie or two per month appears in my experience to become a lot. I believe we have to spend a bit more some time and go just a little much deeper. I do not think it is so almost as much ast 'slow' as concentrated. For the studio, this is actually the correct amount of films. Twelve is a touch more compact, 13 is usually destined to be bigger, so we are excited," he stated. He's alsohopeful about engaging in business with major talents like David Fincher, who's speaking about doing20,000 Leagues Underneath The Ocean, alongtimestudioproject about the ropes shortly afterRoss showed up butnowalive again, in addition to Raimi on Oz "and more compact pictures too. It is the combination that's always this mixture because we are able to only afford a lot of tentpoles. They are very costly." For three dimensional? "I believe when individuals see three dimensional, what Mike Raimi does in three dimensional (in Oz), the design Robert Stromberg has produced -- he won two Oscars consecutively. It is going to be eye-poppingand individuals will understand it seems sensible to visit three dimensional or with Tim Burton and exactly how we demonstrated today with black-and-whitened three dimensional in Frankenweenie. That's his eye, so you need to use visionaries to develop something visionary," Ross stated. The detailed presentation never pointed out DreamWorks, now being written by Disney. Their movie The Assistance moved in to the No. 1 box office slot a few days ago, and Ross explained he could not become more proud. "I am thrilled using the commitment that DreamWorks gave towards the Help, that Stacey (Snider) gave towards the Help. It had been a popular book of mine they put themselves in it. It had been a pleasure to partner together and find out the response because you will find many books nowadays converted to movies that individuals react to, but to become no. 1 movie approaching from No. 2 inside a busy area, we are thrilled," he stated.

Patrick Wilson Joins Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'

Patrick Wilson, that hunky-boy-next door who steamed up the big screen with Kate Winslet in 'Little Children,' paid his dues with roles in blockbusters (but really 'B'-fare) like 'Watchmen' and 'The A-Team,' and again heated up the screen with his role in 'Insidious,' has been cast in Ridley Scott's ultra-secretive 'Prometheus,' according to The Playlist. Little is known about the film outside of the fact that it started out as a prequel of sorts to Scott's 'Alien,' then, when scribe Damon Lindelof came on to rewrite the original script, it supposedly changed course and was touted as a stand-alone sci-fier, though there would be more than a passing nod to 'Alien.' Thus, we know nothing about Wilson's role. What we do know is that Charlize Theron will play the head of The Company, there's going to be at least two androids with a major presence, and the film is shooting both R-rated and PG-13 versions. Also starring is Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce. The film is scheduled for June 8, 2012. Here's Fox's official line on the film: Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.

Damn!

A Disinformation Co. release of a Fantastic Relationship Filmmaking production, in association with the Disinformation Co. Produced by Kristian Almgren. Executive producers, Aaron Morris Cohen, Gary Baddeley, Robert D. Jacobson. Co-producer, Sam Nalband. Directed by Aaron Fisher-Cohen.With: Jimmy McMillan, Caprice Alves, Vincent Imbesi, Romeo Salta, Rico Guy, Penny Guy, Robert Slater, Luis Geraosen, Harry Knowles. If there's a person behind the persona of Jimmy McMillan, the flamboyant fringe pol who ran for governor of New York on the "rent is too damn high" ticket, docu "Damn!" utterly fails to find him. Chock-full of off-puttingly pixelated YouTube clips, including the one that scored millions of hits in the days after McMillan's shticky turn at the 2010 gubernatorial debate, Aaron Fisher-Cohen's uninvestigative pic is otherwise content simply to follow the Brooklyn-based, white-mutton-chops-sporting candidate on his expletive-laden, palm-pressing tour of the five boroughs. Even at 73 minutes, the film is, well, too damn long. A Vietnam vet, soul singer and black-belt karate master who has run for office at least six times since 1993, the sixtysomething McMillan would seem the ideal subject for a colorful film bio. Alas, Fisher-Cohen appears hell-bent on favoring the candidate's "damn" soundbite to the exclusion of nearly all else, the better to serve his own monotonous message that shallow catchphrases and caricatures trump political discourse in the Internet age. Intriguing narrative developments, including the news that McMillan plans to run for president as a Republican, are related through intertitles.Camera (color, HD), Fisher-Cohen; editor, Sam Nalband; music, Michael Rosen; music supervisors, Fisher-Cohen, Nalband. Network-by-network Emmy roundup

While 2010 saw broadcasters score big at Emmy nomination time with first-year shows such as "The Good Wife" and "Modern Family," 2011 tells slightly a different story: Among newcomers, only CBS' "Mike & Molly," Fox's "Raising Hope" and NBC's "Harry's Law" saw the light of nomination day, with two each.Though several returning shows (including "Wife" and "Family") held strong, broadcast networks were down to a combined 178 noms this year (not including PBS), compared with 214 in 2010. HBO led everyone with 104 noms. Here's a breakdown of the broadcast and cable networks that got the most Emmy attention:ABCNoms: 40Due in part to the loss of "Lost" (12 noms in its final year), ABC took a hit from 2010, when the broadcaster had 63, finishing with its lowest total in years. Thankfully for the Alphabet net, there's "Modern Family," which improved from 14 in 2010 to 17 this year. The skein dominates the comedy supporting actor category with four, this year adding Ed O'Neill to Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and defending champ Eric Stonestreet. Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen were again nommed for supporting actress.AMCNoms: 29AMC led the basic cable networks again and set an all-time high for itself; the net had 26 noms in 2010 and 23 in '09. The rise is impressive since Emmy darling "Breaking Bad" was not eligible due to a schedule change. Helping makeup the difference were freshman dramas "The Killing" (six noms) and "The Walking Dead" (three). And then there's "Mad Men," which scored more than any 2010-11 series with 19, topping its record of 17 from 2010. BravoNoms: 5Bravo has yet to find a replacement for nom-getter "Project Runway" since losing the show after the 2009 season, but "Top Chef" remains a consistent darling with four noms. "Kathy Griffin: My Life On the D-List" grabbed one.CBSNoms: 50Topping them all at the Eye was drama "The Good Wife" with nine noms for the second year in a row, including four in supporting actor categories. Charlie Sheen skipped this party, meaning that after four noms he never won for "Two and a Half Men." But previous winner co-star Jon Cryer landed a supporting actor nom, and the show even received a cinematography nom for an episode entitled "Hookers, Hookers, Hookers." CBS' frosh show "Mike & Molly" garnered an art direction nom for its pilot and breakout star Melissa McCarthy. Cartoon NetworkNoms: 6Down one nom from last year, the net has two nods in both the voiceover and short-form animated program categories. The "Robot Chicken" franchise accounts for half the cabler's total.Comedy CentralNoms: 11Up a notch from only eight last year, Comedy Central's standbys came through, namely friendly competitors "The Daily Show" (four noms) and "The Colbert Report" (three). Revived animated comedy "Futurama" added two.DirecTVNoms: 4Saving "Friday Night Lights" from cancellation three years ago has paid off for DirecTV with some feel-good Emmy noms for the series' fifth and final season, including the show's first drama series nod. After eight previous nods but only one win (for casting), "Lights" has a final chance to win with lead drama actor (Kyle Chandler), actress (Connie Britton) and writing (Jason Katims, for the series finale).DiscoveryNoms: 5"Deadliest Catch" holds its place as Discovery's reality ruler, earning four nods for the third year in a row. Discovery is down significantly from last year, when the 11-part doc "Life" raised its total to 14 noms. "MythBusters" will compete with "Deadliest" in the reality program category, which both shows have been nominated for but have never won.FOXNoms: 42Fox is down a bit from 48 noms last year, in part because hitmaker "Glee" went from 19 nods to 12 in its second year of consideration. "American Idol" garnered 10, while "So You Think You Can Dance" added a series-best eight.FXNoms: 6.Cementing itself as an Emmy player was "Justified" with four noms, all in acting categories. The much-discussed "Louie" thrilled its fans with comedy noms in two major categories - lead actor and writing for Louie C.K. The recognition is a good sign of things to come for FX, which no longer has "Nip/Tuck" or "Damages" in its storeroom.HistoryNoms: 7For the third year in a row, one program garnered all of History's noms; this year it's the doc "Gettysburg." History is up from six nods last year and five in '09, although those "Kennedys" noms would have meant a big boost versus a slow climb.HBONoms: 104Up from 101 noms in 2010, HBO is in its 11th year of receiving more noms than any other. Freshman dramas "Boardwalk Empire" and "Game of Thrones" are big successes, with 18 for "Boardwalk," second only to AMC's "Mad Men." "Thrones," with 13 noms, is a breakout critic and fan fave, proving that the masses can dig dungeons and dragons.NBCNoms: 46In his final season on "The Office," Steve Carell earned his sixth lead comedy actor nom but is looking for his first win. NBC's Emmy bellwethers remain "Saturday Night Live" (16 noms) and "30 Rock" (13). "Parks and Recreation" broke through for its first series nomination, while Amy Poehler received her second as lead comedy actress.NickelodeonNoms: 6The kids' cabler scored two noms in the children's program category with "iCarly" (three noms total) and "Victorious."PBSNoms: 43PBS is on the rise; the net had 32 noms in 2010 and 26 in 2009. The pubcaster nearly matched that 2009 total just with the 25 noms that went this year to "Masterpiece" programs, led by "Downton Abbey" with 11. In its 25th year, "American Masters" scored seven nods.ReelzChannelNoms: 10Two words: "The Kennedys." The miniseries that couldn't, wait, maybe it can, got all of the channel's noms, proving that picking it up was a smart PR move for up-and-comer Reelz. Noms included miniseries or movies, as well as lead actor for both Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy and Barry Pepper as Bobby and supporting actor for Tom Wilkinson.ShowtimeNoms: 21Showtime is down a fraction from 23 nods last year, but as usual, its freshmen series drew notice. "The Borgias" got five nods and "The Big C" and "Episodes" each got three, including a lead comedy actress accolade for Laura Linney and lead comedy actor for Matt LeBlanc. Returning series "Dexter" got five nods, but while "Nurse Jackie" star Edie Falco scored another lead drama actress nom after winning last year, the show was down from eight noms to two.StarzNoms: 9Miniseries "The Pillars of the Earth" made up nearly all of Starz's noms with seven. "Spartacus: God of the Arena" and now-canceled "Camelot" grabbed one each, with HBO's "Game of Thrones" dominating the medieval market.TravelNoms: 4"Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" upped its game from one nom last year and grabbed the cabler all of its four this year, including nonfiction series and nonfiction writing.ROAD TO THE EMMYS: THE NOMINEESEnsembles reign among Emmy nominees | href="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118040968">Broadcast comedies on rise as dramas fall | Network-by-network Emmy roundup | Credit where credits are due | PBS feels validated by Emmy haul Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com
