More shows = more stress

Remember swag bags? That former staple of legit parties has largely evaporated because the fiscal crunch, however the Brooklyn Academy of Music stored the tradition alive, handing bags to visitors in the Jan. 18 gala perf of Kevin Spacey starrer "Richard III." Pretty classy for any nonprofit, however, the org is honoring its 150th anniversary, along with the final manufacture of its effective trans-Atlantic co-creating endeavor, the Bridge Project. The gala wasn't the only real factor the humanities org has spent cash on: Coming patrons had strolled past nearby construction which will yield another performance space for BAM to program. BAM leadership, including professional producer Joe Melillo, got a fired up gleam to them once they referred to the extra, exciting work they wished to create towards the venue. According to BAM staffers, however, the talk of 14 additional shows around the org's fall slate produced a gleam that looked a lot more like stress. Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com
